Analysis of Medical Record Data Completeness in Relation to the Timeliness of Inpatient Medical Record Return at RSUD Umar Wirahadikusumah
Abstract
Medical records are essential documents that reflect the quality of hospital services; thus, completeness and timely return of inpatient medical record files are critical for the efficiency and effectiveness of patient information management. This study aimed to examine the relationship between medical record data completeness and the timeliness of returning inpatient records at RSUD Umar Wirahadikusumah. Using a quantitative cross- sectional design and random sampling, the study analyzed 195 inpatient record files collected via checklist and evaluated using the Chi-square test. The results revealed that 160 files (82%) were complete, while only 94 files (48%) were returned on time. The Chi- square test showed a P-value of 0.022 (P < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant association between data completeness and return timeliness, suggesting that delays may negatively impact record completeness or reflect underlying procedural issues . Chief causes of delayed returns included insufficient staff discipline and inefficient return workflows. To enhance medical record service quality, it is recommended to improve the record return system and increase healthcare staff awareness of completing and submitting records promptly and thoroughly.
