Abstract

Narcotic medicine, which is used as pain relievers during surgery, anesthesia or as therapy, has a high risk if not managed properly. Evaluation of narcotic drug management in hospitals is very important to ensure their appropriate and safe use for patients, and to reduce the potential for abuse. The background of this evaluation aims to assess whether existing procedures have been effective in preventing abuse and meeting the standards set by the government and related institutions. The method used in the study was an in-depth interview method using a checklist form. The results of the study for the procurement of narcotic drugs showed a score of (100%), storage showed a score of (90%), delivery showed a score of (89%), recording and reporting showed a score of (100%), and destruction had never been carried out because the stock of drugs was small and always out of stock. The evaluation showed a lack of data on the prescription, such as the patient's address not being included, and the key to the medicine cabinet not being controlled by the pharmacist in charge or authorized employee. This risks violating regulations and increases the potential for drug abuse. Although the management of narcotic drugs in one of the hospitals in West Bandung is generally good, improvements are needed in recording prescriptions and managing keys to ensure patient compliance and safety.
